Sunday 14 February

Valentine’s Day!  And over a week since my last post.  Is that a bit Freudian??

We have been campaigning hard and the same messages are coming back from the streets.  Labours vote is very soft, the Tories isn’t as hard as we might expect, given the unpopularity of the Governments and in many places the LDs are being welcomed almost as a relieving column from the mediocrity that the electorate has been served since Wainwright retired.

Or, perhaps, it’s just me.  Anyway my colleagues and I have now completed the hand deliveries in Colne Valley,Holme Valleys North and South, mostly Golcar and Crosland Moor, leaving Lindley to be addressed this last weekend when we were able to deliver well over half the ward, leaving  areas to be completed during this coming week.

The polls have also been good.  Having been stuck on 19/20, the last three have put us on 21. Labour and Tories still bounce around.

We’re now beginning to see the desperation of the Labour campaign.  On one blog, the candidate is listed as a councillor from Rochdale.  Is she?  We can find no evidence of this.  Indeed the only electoral result is where she came third!  Maybe she is a parish councillor somewhere.

Tories are not much better but it’s what we’ve come to expect.

Was in London on Friday and LibDem colleagues from around the country are reporting the same level of untruths, innuendo, half truths, conjecture etc from the other parties.  Why can’t we just say it as it is?

Another busy week ahead.  At least the weather has improved.  I wonder if I’ll get my garden prepared this spring.
