So much has happened since I last posted

At last the wintery weather seems to be abating.  Mind you, in the thick of it, I had to resolve a local problem of a flower seller in a layby.  It was bitterly cold and the most inappropriate day for such a venture.  At least we got the job done.

Thursday 18 Feb saw the notorious planning committee in full session considering the Lindley Moor Information Technology Park application.  It is really extraordinary to report, after all their comments in the press and their leaflets, that the local Lindley Tories gave absolutely no planning reasons whatsoever why this application shouldn’t be supported.  Yes, they spoke against, but it was emotional claptrap and did nothing to support their supposed campaign.  The real and considered opposition came from the LibDems.  I really hope that the electorate will no longer be duped by these incapable Tories and dump them exactly where they deserve to be…. (left to your imagination).  What a shower

Friday 19 Feb saw the West Yorks Fire Authority meeting.  This seemed to go well, but afterwards I got to ride the new extendable ladder.  Very impressive and exciting.

Sat 20 Feb and it was the Yorkshire and Humber LibDem conference in Harrogate.  Everybody seems to be so positive.  Mind you a lot of hard work is being done and this is raising expectations.  Dare we dream.  Do you remember that quote by Iain Macleod back in the 50s/60s about the Liberals having their dreams.  Well, slowly we seem to be putting them into practise.  I saw a comment in the D Telegraph about the unfair distribution of seats between the Tories and Labour.  Unfair my big toe!!  They should look at the unfair distribution between the LDs and Labour.

Last week was a continuation of the campaign literature delivery.  Once again a full constituency delivery, so another finger in the eye for Cath Ingham.  There seems to be absolutely no sign of Labour and the Tory literature campaign seems to have lessened considerably.  I wonder if Lord Ashcroft has seen the light and reduced his financial support.

Wed 24th.  Full Council.  I can hardly believe my eyes!  After seeing the Tory candidate try to steal our clothes with his call for an independent review of Kirklees’ winter maintenance, there was no sign of this initiative in their budget proposals.  Well that wasn’t too much of a surprise, but to propose e cut of £3 million from the winter maintenance budget is hardly a vote winner!!  In addition, they proposed funding the re-opening of New Mill library without checking whether the facility is still available and with no supporting budget for books, IT equipment, staffing etc etc.  I sometimes am driven to wonder if they have any budgetry sense at all.

Friday 25th the Colne Valley councillors had the regular ward/Highways meeting.  No electricity, short meeting, but a useful opportunity to exchange views.

Monday 1 March.  Bad weekend rugby union-wise but good for football.  Nice day today and we are all seemingly upbeat.  I just hope we can continue to build on this strong base and actually get the results we have been driving for.

Stay strong!!
